Beccehamians vs Sheppey - 13th September 2003 Kent 1 (Lost 13-18) - Some photos from the match.. The new season kicked off for these two Kent One sides with a very hard fought match, on an equally hard pitch. The first half saw the teams locked in an even struggle with missed kicks; loose passes and some great defending on both sides holding off any try scoring opportunities. In set play, Beccehamians looked promising once again with scums and lineouts going to plan and some strong forward momentum. However when the ball was shipped out to the backs they were unable to capitalise on any advantage gained. It was left to the kicking of full back Martin Hennessy and the Sheppey goal kicker to provide the points in the first half. Beccs came out in the second half fighting and things looked to be going their way with some good breaks from scrum half Ben Wood, winger Xavier Darroch and Captain Marc Dennis, but Sheppey managed to hold them off. It was clear that the first team to score would be the victors and sadly it was Sheppey who broke the dead lock first following a miss pass by Beccehamians in their twenty two. Sheppey managed to drive Beccs back over the line and the forwards were unable to get back in time to prevent the first try of the match. Following their try, fortune seemed to change for Sheppy and at the end they looked the better side. Beccehamians did not give up though and worked the ball down the field several times only to be pushed back and it was Sheppey who once again managed to push the ball over the try line with some strong mauling for the final points of the match. Beccehamians next match is in the cup, away against Ashford. They will be hoping to capitalise on some of the stronger aspects of their game - namely the defensive pattern that held firm for most of the game and set pieces - while tightening up their set moves and attacking play. This match promises to be another hard fought game with Beccs playing the winning the rugby they are capable of. |
