Beccehamians vs Lordswood - 25 October 2003
Kent 1 (Won 6-0)

With some immense tackling and rock-solid defensive play, the home side held off several attacks from the visitors including a powerful serge for the line by Lordswood number eight.

Most notable were the tackles put in by the centre partnership of Jo Goodwillie and Daniel Reese preventing their opposite numbers gaining any ground.

In a game played on the fringes of the law, there were several penalties awarded to both sides. Luckily for Beccs, the Lordswood kicker missed his first shot at goal, whilst Beccs flyhalf Martin Hennessy managed to slot his home giving the home side the advantage early on.

This spurred the team on, but unfortunately even the power of forwards Justin Ellis, Brian Sweeting and Gary Stokes was unable to penetrate the Lordswood defence who were tackling equally well and the first half ended without a try.

The second half saw some even bigger hits and faster breaks in end-to-end excitement. The teams were evenly matched with Lordswood's lineouts proving to be very effective while Beccs once again scrummaged exceptionally well.

Both teams got within scoring distance of the try line but remained in a deadlock.

A welcome return from lock, Simon Henley gave Beccs a boost in set pieces and drop outs, while in open play, forwards and backs integrated to ship the ball down the field and into space.

Martin Hennessy took full advantage of the opportunity created for him and kicked a prefect drop goal to take Beccs further ahead.

The lead was by no means comfortable though and sensing the closeness of the match, Lordswood threw everything they had at the home side in the dying minutes of the game.

But the defiant Beccs side were not about to give up their well-earned victory and with some hard rucking and mauling, managed to win back the ball and clear it into touch to win their third match in a row.

Beccehamians travel to Whitstable next week in the hope of continuing their winning run.
