Dartfordians 5 -V- Beccehamians 37- 3rd December 2006
Beccehamians continued their recent winning streak with an impressive away win at Dartfordians. The whole team played as a cohesive unit with backs ruthless in defence and attack, running in 5 of the 6 tries and linking well with a dominant pack that controlled the lineout, winning all their own ball and stealing some of Darts'.
Beccs started well and were 3 points to the good after only 2 minutes with Darts killing the ball in the tackle and Goodwilie taking the penalty. Five minutes later after a long rolling maul, prop Simon Jones scored his debut try from push over to make it 8-0 (missed conversion).
Beccs continued to cycle the ball and the backs started to show their pace. After 22 mins the ball was worked wide releasing Fisher with a long run to the try line he out-sprinted the cover to score by the posts, Goodwillie conversion 15-0.
Beccs continued to gain confidence in their ability and on the half hour attacked from deep in their own half. After some slick interpassing Tony Bryan dived over to score by posts, Goodwillie added the conversion taking the lead to 22-0.
Having been on the receiving end of some tallented play, Darts finally work up and for the remainder of the half mounted their best period of play. Beccs, camped was on their own try line, resolutely defended 25 phases of Darts attacking play from 10 metres or less, nothing given.
The second half started with Darts getting their only points of the day a break down the left wing resulted in an unconverted try in the corner.
Beccs then got back into gear 10 mins into the half, following break by Welch, winger Fisher received a pass on the right and once again showed his speed, up the hill, to outrun defence again to score in the corner 27-5.
Buckle increased the score by a further 5 points by taking his try after a clever break by young sub Morgan which was set up by a good forward rolling maul and link play.
The final try came from the ever alert Welch. With Darts giving a away a penalty for killing ball, Welch took a quick tap making another break, chiped ahead and won the foot race to touch down in the left corner with the Darts defence fast asleep. Final score 37-5.
Tony Bryans' try was a great example of a good, well executed backs move finished by superb handling and support play by the back line who enjoyed an excellent day all round. Like Ashford last week, Dartfordian’s showed the determination of a side that refused to give up by putting the Beccs defence under severe pressure especially at the end of both halves.
Beccs next league game is a local derby at home against Bromley on Saturday 16th December, kick off 2:00pm
