1st Sept 2007 - EDF Senior Vase
Beccehamian 17 - Campion 7

The EDF Senior Vase Cup Competition kicked off the new season at Beccs and was also the first game of the Season for the 1st XV. The draw pitted Beccs against Campion, who we have never encountered before from Romford, Essex. Beccs' start was all they could dream for, Campion failed to start the game properly at kick-off giving Beccs a scrum in the centre, a quick break on the blind side and Beccs were away scoring under the posts. The conversion making it 7-0 in the first couple of minutes and Beccs must have thought Christmas had arrived early.

In the first 20 minute Beccs were in control and put pressure on Campion in lineout and scrum and with solid defence on the occasional Campion incursion. However territory was squandered by giving away too many unnecessary penalties and this became a trend throughout the game. Beccs extended the lead by a further 3 points with a penalty kick after 25 minutes.

Campion came back and managed to score through their forwards who had now blown away any cobwebs, the conversion was missed making it 10-5 to Beccs. Just before half time Danny Kemp scored a fine try under the posts by steamrollering is way over his opposite centre. 17 - 5 to Beccs at half-time.

The second half saw Campoin keeping the ball close to the forwards who made good yardage through some driving and rolling mauls. With 15 minutes to go they scored through one of these drives to bring the score to 17-10. Beccs put pressure on the Campion line during the final few minutes, however, gave away potential scoring opportunities through penalties.

Final score 17-10. The Second round has drawn Beccs against Gravesend on the 13th October at Beccs.
