October 2003 - Update

First Games & Next Fixtures

Well that was a warm one last weekend. First matches out of the way and overall fantastic results across all age groups, I think 4 age groups won all their matches. Big thanks and well done to all those who came down and played, ground was hard and the sun was hot so tiring conditions. Big thank you to all involved in providing the catering both upstairs in the kitchen and out on the BBQ.

Next few weekends are very busy with the following fixtures - Bromley Festival (Hayes) with 10 clubs on the 12th Oct; a 3 or 4 way fixture on Oct 19th at O.Elthamians (near Chislehurst); and Westcombe Park Festival (near Orpington) with 20 clubs on 26th Oct. Details from your coaches. We wouldn’t normally have 3 fixtures on the trot, it’s just how the Festivals dates fell and the O.E’s is a Kent RFU designated fixture. The Festivals are usually long days finishing between 2 – 4 pm depending on age group and how successful you are. There is usually restricted numbers in squads at the Festivals and we must conform to RFU squad sizes, this could affect some of the larger groups and it may not be practically possible to take everyone (despite all of the coaches’ wishes). In addition, too large a squad will mean that players won’t get many games. If you know you can’t make a particular date then please tell your coach as soon as possible so that they can organize the squad. Good Luck.

Safety Reminder

Please ensure that all of the boys and girls wear gum shields even from a very early age. It is important that they protect both sets of teeth especially the second teeth. Any body protection must have an IRB (International Rugby Board) label on it (most do nowadays). Check the label, it means that the clothing has passed IRB safety standards, no IRB label will mean you can’t wear the clothing.

Membership

Membership forms can be gained from the coaches or from Sharon Keate. Remember two passport size photographs per child (if new to the club) and to include contact telephone numbers, both home and a mobile numbers. Family Membership is £40 per family. Big thank you to all those who have already completed forms and to Sharon for processing them. Fixture cards are being processed once I’ve been able to get hold of them, please bear with us.

Beccehamian RFC Website

We have a club website at www.beccehamians.co.uk and a Mini section within it. If you have any pictures you wish to put onto the site then please e-mail me at putner@gotadsl.co.uk with a short description and I’ll try to get them on. Mini section has mainly got pictures from last year’s U11’s and U12’s and the presentation night and it would be great to get some pictures of the other age groups.

Dates for the Diary
  • Tour forms are now available for your coach. Tour weekend is the 16th – 18th April to Warmwell, Dorset. Please try to return the booking slip to reserve you place by the 16th November.

  • Tarts and Vicars Party 15th November (Adults) £4 from the Bar.

  • Saturday 6th December, Mini Parents Party and disco at our clubhouse and is the main fund raiser for the Mini section. Last year was absolutely fantastic (I think). More details to follow later.
Regards,

Nigel
