10th Oct 2004 - Bromley Festival Match Report Played 4 - Won 2; Drew 2 Photo of the squad more.. Team : Tim Viney, Matt Georgel, Luc Hallam, Cameron Macaskill (did not attend – sick), Jack Pitman, Alfie Lowe, Henry Rowbotham, Harry Scott-Munro, Max Talliss, Lewis Moody and Tom Wright. Special mentions for Elliot Peters and Michael Rochester who both, very gallantly, agreed to step down from the team this week to allow their other team-mates to get some match practice. At this age level, the tournament was run as a friendly round-robin competition. The emphasis was on the “spirit of rugby”. Del suggested this should be a nice single-malt whisky but I think he hadn’t exactly grasped the concept. Each match was scored with a single point being awarded between the teams for each match based on team-spirit, gamesmanship and the level of interaction between the referee, the two coaches, the two teams and the two sets of supporting parents. One word can describe the conditions – WINDY!!! The team did well to restrict their injuries to off-pitch incidents between games -bumped heads seemed to be the order of the day. The performances became increasingly better as each match was played and each player seemed to grow in confidence to the point where in the final game we had a string of three, YES THREE, passes made prior to the tag which led to a sweeping try. My recollection of the results (from discussions with parents) Old Alleynians – drawn (3-3) Old Colfeian Blues – won (5-4) Bishop Stortford – drawn (3-3) Brighton Stingrays – won (4-3) Man of the Festival : Tom Wright Supporting player: Jack Pitman Congratulations to Bromley RFC for a superbly arranged and marshalled event. Well played team!! Nick |
