Bromley Mini Rugby Festival Sunday 9th October 2005. Played 4 - Won 2; Drew 1; Lost 1 Photo of the squad more.. Our first competitive outing of the 05-06 season, saw a mixture of experienced heads and fresh new developing talent. Our first game was against a keen and mean looking Ashford. A fast game ensued on a slippery, dew sodden ground, which caused a few slips and a couple of disallowed tries. Beccs gelled well together with tries from Max Tallis (2), Harry Scott-Munro (2), Cameron Grant and Scott Thomas, giving us a 6-2 victory. It became evident over the next 4 hours that the future of Beccehamian rugby, was safe in their hands! Beccs started slow as we went into our second game against Bishops Stortford, we were 2-0 down by half time. By the second half, Beccs were chomping at the bit (which was probably assisted by the large pot of Cadburys Chocolate!) There were some great solo runs down the length of the pitch by Joseph Bennett and Max Tallis. A superb try in the dying seconds, by Max Tallis gave us a hard fought 3-3 draw. The third game was against Old Alleynians B. A slow start for Beccs again, but the hour between games and full stomachs may have had something to do with this. The team fell 2 behind again, but great defensive play and support, most notably from Harry Gibson, meant the lads had pulled it back to 2-2 by half time. Beccs were on a roll, biting their gum shields and with shin pads at the ready, they forged forward. 2 further tries and great tagging by all, led to a 4-2 victory with tries by Max Tallis, Jed Sexton, Tom Firth and Ben Steward. We knew, once we saw the draw that our final game was going to be our toughest. The under 12’s were enlisted to add additional support, as we faced Crowborough. A. We knew it was going to be a hard, fast game, with all of the boys putting their heart and soul into their play. It remained fairly even at 3-3 until the last few minutes when two turnovers and the fresher legs of Crowborough, worked against us, resulting in a 5-3 victory to them. Tries by Harry Scott-Munro, Max Tallis and Scott Thomas. A fantastic first outing for the team, which was capped when they received their medals. We are sure, the smiles remained for hours, if not days. It was heartening to see so many supporters on the day, we had more supporters than any other pitch. The enthusiasm of the support (you know who you are) was astounding and really helped the team along. We would like to thank the Beccs under 7’s team for making us proud. What a start to the season ? Well done to the entire team. Beccs man of the festival :- Max Tallis Andy and Rod | |||
