Semi Final vs Bromley RFC - won 0-0 (match decided on toss of a coin) Final vs Tunbridge Wells RFC - lost 1-0 Photos of Vandals in action are here - photos Some brilliant team play and our normal steadfast defence was on show. Again we were beginning to show a little tiredness towards the end and didn’t really play the first half of the final very well. We must all work on tackling and, with specific reference to the backs, to not getting drawn into every breakdown and allowing yourselves space to run into. An overall performance to be proud of. The first silverware of the season, lets make it the first of many. Kent Festival here we come. Beccs B - Vagabonds Players : Jacob Ferguson (Captain), Sean, Aidan Stocker, James Golding, Will Pigg, Alex Knight, Luc Hallam, Josh Frost, Laurie Plumb & Charlie and Richard (surnames forgotten) who were playing down from U10's to help out. Samuel Clarke also turned out from U10's as a substitute but was not used. Should be noted that we were asked to submit a second squad at the last moment as some teams had cancelled. We did so, only for our B Team to be placed in a pool with three A teams. Ouch!!! Record : Played 4, Won 0, Lost 4, Drew 0. Result : Losing Semi-Finalists - Trophy Competition 1st Pool Game vs Tunbridge Wells RFC - lost 7-0 2nd Pool Game vs Medway RFC - lost 6-0 3rd Pool Game vs Brighton RFC - lost 7-0 By honour of the fact that the Vagabonds were in a small pool, they automatically progressed to the Trophy Competition. Semi Final vs Old Colfeians RFC - lost 1-0 (with last play of the match). Photos of Vagabonds in action are here - photos Our B team has had little chance to play together this season due to squad numbers available. They faced, in my opinion, three of the strongest sides in the tournament, with Brighton going on to win the festival, Medway winning the Plate and Tunbridge Wells winning the bowl (at the expense of our A team). Jacob Ferguson performed a sterling and difficult job as captain and had to maintain the team morale despite the heavy losses and direct the team positionally. The team seemed to enjoy the chance to play together and acquitted themselves well when they concentrated. They even pushed Old Colfeians right to the last moment in the semi-final. A heartening display from a group of lads who still have a lot to learn with regards to position and play, but could give good lessons in losing with dignity and playing for the fun of it. Thanks to Tim Buckle for finding us some helpers to play down as we had no substitutes. They were put to good use. |
