Congratulations to Langly Park U15s on Winning the Daily Mail Vase. In an incredibly tense second half, fly-half Ben Hollister landed the winning kick eight minutes into added time for Langley Park with the last kick of the game after Calday Grange’s backs went offside at a scrum on their 22. With the scores at 0-0 at half time Langley broke the deadlock with a well worked move 15 mins into the second half with wing Dan Hamilton touching down. Caldy Grange then worked their way back and scored with what appeared to be 5 minutes to go of normal time and also converted to take the lead at 7-5.
Into injury time and Langley pressed hard and an attempted drop-goal from Holister looked as if it would seal the match only to bounce of the left hand post. With players virtually dead on their feet through effort Langley kept the ball alive as much as possible with the clock ticking down and nobody but the referee with an idea of how long was left to play. The final scrum was delayed whilst scrum-half BJ Tarbie, who had a super game throughout, was carried off. The scrum in front of the posts proved too much for Caldy Grange and they were caught off-side in their eagerness to prevent another Hollster drop-goal attempt. This resulted in the penalty and the Langley victory which was wildly celebrated by players and supporters alike.
Beccs U15s players Jake Burr (Captain of Langley U15s) received the trophy with Jamie Hughes, Matt Phillips and Tom Pelling all receiving winners medals.
RFU report. Once again, congratulations, you did it!

Congratulations go to Jamie Keate, Aiden Brennan and Andrew Murray who have all been selected as part of the Kent U17s squad. This is a fantastic achievement as there are only 25 players in the squad and to have such a high number from one club is huge credit to the players and the Academy coaches. Well done lads.

An absolutely outstanding achievement. Today at 12:28 GMT four brave chaps completed a 2550 mile row across the Atlantic to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis. On behalf of everyone at Beccehamians RFC we would like to offer Justin Ellis, Andy Erhart, Mark Hefford and Nick Young our heart felt congratulations on completing their epic challenge. Justin, Andy and Mark have all played for Beccs in recent years but have obviously been somewhat engaged with other activities recently. Although their challenge is now over you can still read about their row and also contribute to their fund raising for CF by donating at

It is with much regret that we have learned that our former player Barry Copeland who played in our first XV in the 1980's lost his wife and both his children in a car crash near Montrose while on the school run on the morning of Wednesday 9th January. Ann was only 45 years old and Niamh 10, and Ciara only 7.
Barry had moved away to Scotland to continue his teaching career some years ago and has stayed in touch with several senior members of Beccehamians RFC over the years. Barry was a regular winner of the club 10 mile fun run on the occasions he was able to co-incide a visit to London with the event.
Our hearts and thoughts go out to Barry at this time.
The club has sent flowers to Barry as a mark of respect, we will also be holding a minute's silence on Saturday before the first team league game against Hove at Sparrows Den as a mark of respect for the Copeland family. If you are not there please pause for a minute at 14:15 to do the same, and think of Barry during this difficult time.

Sam Vernazza
from the Academy age group took part in the European Tae Kwondo championships this last weekend and won gold in his weight & age group. Sam took gold at these championships last year too. Well done Sam congratulations. The Acedemy's opposition had better remember not to start any fights, they could get more than they bargained for.

Jack Petchy Awards
Beccehamian RFC are proud to announce that we have been accepted onto the Jack Petchey Gold Achievement Award scheme. For more details look at the noticeboard in the lobby or go to www.jackpetcheyfoundation.org.uk and look at the Achievement Award Scheme.
The scheme is worth £2,400 a year to the club in the form of 12 monthly awards of £200 each. The awards are open to players, male and female, aged between 11 and 25. They are not intended for the gifted and talented but for achievers. This could be someone who has overcome adversity, suffers a debilitating illness but always turns up to play. Each monthly winner is awarded £200 to spend on the club. It can be spent on anything that benefits the players - kit, equipment, IT, couses, tours etc. Ideally it should benefit the whole club but there is nothing to stop a player selecting something that would benefit his or her team as long as it is up to the value of £200.
Each winner gets a certificate and a badge. In May we will hold a presentation session when all the winners get a boxed certificates for their achievements.
The October Award was presented to Robert Hampton, see Jack Petchy Awards web page.

1st XV start with a win.
The EDF Senior Vase Cup Competition kicked off the new season at Beccs and was also the first game of the Season for the 1st XV. The draw pitted Beccs against Campion, who we have never encountered before from Romford, Essex. Beccs' start was all they could dream for, Campion failed to start the game properly at kick-off giving Beccs a scrum in the centre, a quick break on the blind side and Beccs were away scoring under the posts. The conversion making it 7-0 in the first couple of minutes and Beccs must have thought Christmas had arrived early.
In the first 20 minute Beccs were in control and put pressure on Campion in lineout and scrum and with solid defence on the occasional Campion incursion. However territory was squandered by giving away too many unnecessary penalties and this became a trend throughout the game. Beccs extended the lead by a further 3 points with a penalty kick after 25 minutes.
Campion came back and managed to score through their forwards who had now blown away any cobwebs, the conversion was missed making it 10-5 to Beccs. Just before half time Danny Kemp scored a fine try under the posts by steamrollering is way over his opposite centre. 17 - 5 to Beccs at half-time.
The second half saw Campoin keeping the ball close to the forwards who made good yardage through some driving and rolling mauls. With 15 minutes to go they scored through one of these drives to bring the score to 17-10. Beccs put pressure on the Campion line during the final few minutes, however, gave away potential scoring opportunities through penalties.
Final score 17-10. The Second round has drawn Beccs against Gravesend on the 13th October at Beccs.
