Sunday 23rd September 2007 Beccehamians 19 - Tonbridge Juddeians 12
Our first game of the season and our first in the Youth section, after three weeks of practice the boys were really looking forward to it, as were the parents.
Judds started brightly and put us under early pressure, strong in the tackle and quick to the breakdown we turned at half time two breakaway tries and a conversion down. 12 – 0 . I am not sure what Cliff said at half time but we really fronted up after the break and put Judd’s on the back foot, we began to dictate the pace of play and force some errors.
With Michael Garner touching down after a forward drive and Harvey Parham converting from in front of the posts. Playing with more confidence we were soon on the attack again with George Williams scoring in the corner, Harvey unable to convert from the touchline but we were now level at 12 – 12.
Man of the match Harvey playing at flanker had an exceptional game showing good fitness, strength and speed, he was instrumental in taking the game to Judd’s and was rewarded for his efforts when he went over for our third score, which he duly converted to put us 19 – 12 up.
We then shut Judd’s out in the final fifteen minutes with good tackling and running, Matt Kemp controlling the game at flyhalf, kicking to the corners and keeping the ball in Judd’s half.
A great result and all round team effort. Especially impressive is the way the lads themselves dealt with problems and changed the game to keep Judds from scoring in the second half. Well done boys, keep it up.
