Beccehamians 7 v Bromley 22
This was always going to be a stiff challenge, as Bromley in our age group have always been very strong. They have a large squad of players to choose from, and are in the fortunate position of having two sides an A and B. The team we faced were mainly A’s including a couple of Kent representatives. The conditions were dreadful, driving rain and cold.
In the early exchanges we held our own, but Bromley were strong tackling and really pressed when we had possession. We made some good breaks but had a tendency to stand back and watch our runners, instead of supporting. Leaving the runners stranded when tackled, and resulting in turnover ball. Some of our decision making was also poor, in trying to kick upfield instead of to touch, leading to Bromley scores. Ray scored our only try with a forceful run from a penalty move from 10 metres out, which was well converted by Matt into the wind, and we turned at halftime 7-17 down.
We conceded only one try in the second half, and continued to battle to the end. Cliff rang the changes giving everyone a game, using all of our 8 subs. We should have been closer, and if we learn our lessons next time we will be.
