Sunday 10TH October
BECCEHAMIANS 34 V EDENBRIDGE 0
In blustery conditions the boys ran out winners 34 – 0. It was not until late in the first half that Beccs stamped their authority on the match.
The game started with a number of clever runs by Jamie Keate and Michael Glover ensuring the opponents were put onto the back foot.
The 1st try try came from good work by the pack, Chris Brown peeled off a maul and drove directly at the opposition defence, sucking them in, quick released ball allowed Becc’s to move the ball along the line quickly, resulting in an overlap and a try by Charlie under the posts.
Michael O Flynn duly converted the try in testing conditions.
Immediately after the kick off Michael Glover, as Captain, produced a number of penetrating runs, sidestepping a number of the opposition.
One such run allowed James Messer to score the 1st of his 2 tries in the 12th minute. This came about by a great pick up from a maul by Scott and passing to Dominic who cleverly passed on to Michael Glover changing the angle of attack and wrong footing the opposition . A quick pass to James on the wing who then ghosted passed the opposition for the 5 points. Unfortunately Michael O Flynn narrowly missed the conversion.
The 3rd try came in the 20th minute from a scrum on the half way line. The scrum was won by Beccs , with James Williams at scrum half transferring the ball quickly through to fly half Jamie Keate, with the opposition up in defence quickly Jamie produced an intelligent kick over the advancing Edenbridge backs, allowing James Messer to field the ball, break through one tackle and sprint 30 yards for the second of his tries. Again due to the blustery conditions it was not converted
Beccs produced an excellent start to the second half, as immediately from the kickoff the ball was collected by Bobby who produced one of his trademark 40 yard bulldozing runs, leaving defenders in his wake, to score a great individual try under the posts. This was converted by Michael O’flynn
Next on the score sheet was Harvey Jewell, who attacking from deep ran in a great try displaying great vision coupled with strength (shrugging off a number of tackles) and pace to outsrip the Edenbridge defence. This was not converted
In the last quarter Beccs produced a team try,the scrum produced another great set piece play, winning the ball against the head on the Becc’s 22 , it was spun wide quickly by James to Jamie Keate at Stand Off who produced a scintillating run down the blind side, side stepping one opponent only to be stopped by a last desperate tackle from the Edenbridge full back 2 yards from the try line. However Michael Glover in strong support was able to pick the ball up and score a try
The Beccs scrum was solid but the backs were sharp in this game. Chris summed the spirit of the team by producing a great run and was only stopped by 3 boys from Edenbridge, one jumping on his back.
