Sunday 21st November
BECCEHAMIANS 33 V O.Alleynians 7

Beccs won this enthralling game in cold, windy and heavy underfoot conditions. With a number of absentees, it was necessary to rejig the team with a number of people stepping up to plate and agreeing to play out of position and performing exceptionally well under the circumstances.

Andrew Murray as the Beccs Captain lost the toss and was forced to start by playing up hill. The game started with a number of scrums and mauls which produced scrappy ball for the backs with either side making it difficult to gain ground. There were one or two great pick ups by Bobby from the back of the scrum with big Alex and Danny Meehan in close support.

Despite the conditions the win was pretty much decide in the 1st half with 4 tries being run in by Becc’s

The 1st try was run in by the centre Michael Glover in the 10th minute .Beccs had a penalty some 25 yards out from old Alleynians goal line. Andrew Murray spun the ball wide to Jaime who then off loaded to Michael Glover on the burst, breaking through a number of tackles to score under the posts. The conversion was made by CJ.

The second try was scored by Dan Webb on the wing, in the 12th minute, who had an excellent game producing some bone crunching tackles against opposition who were twice his size. The try came from an excellent passage of continuous play, with Chris Brown charging at the oppo, offloading the ball to Danny Meehan in close support who took the ball on some 10 metres before executing a great basic draw and pass to Dan Webb who went crashing over for a great try. Unfortunately this was not converted by CJ due to the narrow angle.

The 3rd try was run in by Michael Glover in the 15th minute, who looked in great form. He collected the ball on the Beccs 22 and produced a scintillating run across the park, breaking 3 tackles and then arcing round the third player and sprinting some 40 metres before placing the ball in front of the posts. The eagerness of the Becc’s players to get a win was clearly demonstrated as James Williams stayed in support on Michaels shoulder all the way. CJ then was able to convert.

There followed some great attacking play by Alleynians with some superb picking up and driving by their forwards resulting in a well deserved try under the Becc’s posts, which was also converted.

Becc’s regrouped though and hit back in the 21st minute with the best team try of the match. There was great forward play on the half way with Becc’s sucking in the the forwards setting up a clean ruck from which Becc’s were able to produce an intelligent play. With skipper Andrew picking up and breaking quickly away from the ruck, he was able to pick up Bobby with a well judged floated pass over the top of the Alleynians defender who then went on one of his bursting runs to score under the posts. Again CJ converted.

The second half started as the 1st half with a battle in the scrum, with the Old Alleynian pack being some what heavier putting up stiff competition. Though Beccs held them well.

The final try of the game came as a copy of the 1st half try, with big Alex picking up from a solid scrum and peeling off and running with the ball for some 10 metres and managing to offload to Bobby to run in the try converted by CJ.
