Sunday 5th December
BECCEHAMIANS 27 V Bromley 0

Beccs turned in an awe inspiring display to win this enthralling game. The backs produced their best performance to date with great interplay. The team were up to almost full strength with 6 subs. The team also welcomed a new player into their ranks Sam Vernaza.

Beccs won the toss and started by playing down hill. The game started with a number of scrums, mauls producing scrappy ball for the backs and a number of knock on’s. The scrums were solid as ever and in the 1st half Becc’s won two against the head. Lineouts were a different matter with Bromley putting us under a lot of pressure and spoilt a lot of our ball.

Beccs 1st try came in the 25th minute from Bobby. It started from a Beccs lineout on the half way line. Having won it, Andrew Murray was able to pass to Jamie Keate who floated a kick over the advancing Bromley line. There a ruck was formed and won by Becc’s and Bobby was able to pick up and drive through 3 tackles to score under the posts. This was converted by Michael O Flynn and at half time 7-0 to Beccs.

After Beccs had made a number of substitutions, the second half started as the 1st half with a battle in the scrum, Bromley pack putting up stiff competition though Beccs held them well. Within the 1st 10 minutes, big Alex produced a great run, by running from the Becs 22M line, crossing the full length of the pitch breaking a number of tackles, with great support from Michael Glover , Bobby, and Dominic Leone Becc’s almost scored what would have been a superb team try.

The 2nd try came in the 12th minute. A ruck was formed on the Bromley 22M line, Michael O Flynn acting as scrum half picked up the ball which was transferred along the line quickly from Jamie Keate, through Michael Glover, Danny Meehan, Charlie Jennings and on to Michael Phillips who scored in the corner. Michael then failed to score due to the tight angle.

The 3rd try 5 minutes later came from Michael Phillips who produced one of his scintillating arcing runs rounding two players before cutting in to place the ball under the sticks. Michael O’Flynn duly converted

The 4th try, and the best of the match, came in the 20th minute by Danny Meehan, again as a result of great interplay from the backs as well as the forwards, especially Chris Brown. It came immediately from the Bromley kick-off. Chris was able to collect and drive resulting in Beccs gaining ground up to the half way line. He then released it to Big Alex, supported by Bobby, who was able to offload out of the tackle on to Danny Meehan to produce the best try of the day. Again due to the tight angle it was not converted.
