BECCEHAMIANS 10 V DARTFORDIANS 10

Played at Dartfordians, it was by far the toughest match of season so far. It was played at speed and intensity, with ferocious tackling from both sides, resulting in a match to savour, with the teams sharing the spoils.

The first Quarter had Becc’s camped in Darts 22, who with a solid defence managed to stop Becc’s crossing their line. Both teams produced solid tackling which resulted in both Dan Webb and Scot Martin getting injured and having to retire to the touchline. The rest of the half resulted in there being no difference between the teams with Bobby producing a number of strong runs with Michael G in support, and some astute tactical kicking by Jamie Keate and Michael Phillips.

On half time, Dartfordians scored a try but failed to convert from a push over.

The start of the second half mirrored the first half, with strong tackling in the middle of the field and a right royal battle up front.

In the middle of the half Beccs scored a well deserved try through Michael Phillips which was not converted. The try came from a ruck on the Darts 22,with a swift ball from Andrew Murray to Jamie Keate, the ball was then transferred quickly through the midfield and out to Michael Phillips on the wing, who with little space to work in showed great determination and strength to burst through 2 tackles and touch down in the corner.

Darts, seeing Beccs not quickly returning to their positions to receive the ball took advantage with a quick kick-off which resulted in an unconverted try.

Beccs responded aggressively with some bullocking runs up the park by Bobby and Dan Meehan, and a notably superb one-handed pick up and dash by James Williams. One of these runs coupled with a penetrative break by Michael Glover through the mid-filed resulted in a try for Bobby, after a great drive by him in the corner.

The last 5 minutes resulted in a determined defence by Becc’s who by now had 4 people on the sidelines with injuries meaning a serious re-jigging of the team, with hooker playing on the wing , scrum halves in the centre and locks propping.

Nonetheless, the boys showed great character and stuck to the task in hand, and to the delight of the nerves of the spectators, the ref (who had a great game) blew for full time.
