Sunday 23rd January

BECCEHAMIANS 38 V SEVENOAKS 5

A good match to watch with conditions near perfect. The Boys ran in comfortable winners. Beccs welcomed 2 new boys to their ranks, Tommy Bateman and Sam Fernaza.

The first 10 minutes was scrappy with both packs & backs probing each other’s defences. The first try, for Beccs was scored by Michael Glover after 15 minutes, from a kick out by Sevenoaks. The ball was collected by Michael Phillips who passed to Jamie Keate who dummied his opposite number and was able then to pass it to Michael Glover who catching the defence flat footed was able to round them and score under the posts. Michael O’Flynn duly converted.

In the 20th minute Michael Phillips score a try after some good work by Michael O’Flynn (sporting a great shiner, a momento from the previous week). Michael collected the ball on the Sevenoaks 22 and ran it straight at the Sevenoaks defence he was able to suck in a number of their players, and then released the ball to Michael Phillips to score. The conversion failed.

The 3rd try by Beccs was scored again by Michael Phillips who was having an inspirational game. It came from a clearance kick by Sevenoaks. The ball was collected by Harvey Jewell at full back who then kicked it cross field, a brilliant foresight as he saw Michael Phillips running up the wing. Michael was able to pick up the ball and round a number of Sevenoaks players to score in the corner. It was not converted

The 4th try was scored by Harvey Jewell in the last minute of the half. He collected the ball from a kick-out in Beccs 22 and with two outrageous dummys and breaking a tackle, he scored a try under the posts, which was converted by Michael O’Flynn.

The half time was called and Beccs in a commanding 24-0 lead.

The second half began in similar fashion to the 1st ,with Sevenoaks putting in a fighting game and despite the score line, never let their heads down and continued to take the game back to Becc’s.

Beccs scored their 5th try in the 15th minute of the 2nd half. It was scored by the skipper of the day Danny Meehan who produced a blistering performance in the 2nd half. The try came from a maul position, where Danny picked up the ball and ran along the line, breaking 2 tackles. This was converted by Michael O Flynn

In the 20th Minute, Andrew Murray almost scored a magical try, breaking out of a maul on the half way line, he weaved & sidestepped a number of their players before being caught 5 metres out.

In the 25th minute Danny scored another try, this time it was from, a maul position, as he used his aggression to rip the ball from the opposition and drive through the defence and over the line for a try. With Michael O’Flynn on the bench, Andrew Murray took over the conversion duties and duly slotted the ball through the sticks.

Sevenoaks, as they had all game, came back at Becc’s and proceeded to camp on the Beccs line from the restart and got their just rewards by scoring a try, despite some resolute defence by Becc’s. This went unconverted.

Alberto.
