UNDER 14 - SUNDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER
BECCEHAMIANS 26 V DARTFORDIANS 5
The 1st game of the season produced a hard won effort, with the Becs running in 4 tries to one. Becs putting in a discipline approach to the competition.
The 1st 5 minutes reflected the run of the game with rucking and mauls producing scrappy ball for either team to use.
The 1st try was run in by the wing Michael Phillips in the 10th minute . After Dartfordians failed to make touch from their 22. the ball was collected by Michael who produced a scintillating run, breaking 3 tackles and going around a third player before placing the ball in front of the posts. This was then converted by Michael O’Flynn .
In the 2nd quarter Michael Phillips ran in his 2nd try of the match under the posts which was duly converted by Michael O’Flynn. The move came after some solid tackling by Becc’s in their 22 allowing Liam to gather the ball and feed Michael who proceeded to run the whole length of the field.
The final 10 minutes of the 1st half saw full back Harvey run in Becc’s third try of the match. Again this came from a breakdown of Dartfordians attack with some excellent tackles. It allowed the ball to be passed to Harvey who broke through 2 tackles to score under the posts
Runs by Bobby Coles and Dan Webb almost produced further try’s from pickups at the scrum, where the Becc’s pack continued to produce good controlled ball from which to attack from.
The second half followed the 1st half. After 3 minutes Michael O’Flynn scored an opportunist try after taking a quick penalty from 10 yards out. This came after a breakout of by Becc’s from their own half following a kick and chase by centre Michael Glover .
The second half became littered with injuries on both sides The hard hitting tackles put in by Becc’s (Jamie Keate and Bobby Coles) resulted in anumber of stoppages, nonetheless Dart’s stayed to the task in hand and were rewarded with a try in the corner which was unconverted.
This was a tough start to the season with Becc’s putting together a good team effort to run out as the victors , though the score belies the closeness of the two teams with solid tackling produced by both sides.
