Sunday 2nd October 2005
Sevenoaks 36 - Beccehamians 22

After a lovely autumnal drive down to Sevenoaks Beccs U14’s looked to get a win in a tough fixture.

As the first kick was taken we seemed to be determined and ready for the challenge ahead. For the first 10 minutes we dominated Oaks, not letting them in our half. We kept applying that pressure until Oaks got a breakthrough and got what seemed to be a lucky try. With heads held up we attacked them again until after a long build up Oaks got another converted try. Coming straight back from the start we were more than ready to have another crack at Sevenoaks. After about 5minutes a run away try was at hand when Steven Fisher broke through the Oaks defence to score.

However, when Sevenoaks went through for their 3rd try our heads started to fall slightly. Never the less we restarted and went straight back at them, but again we let in a try from distance from thier out side centre.

Encouraging words from captain James Hampton and coach Nigel Putner behind the posts helped us regain our mental strength. Half time approached after what seemed to be an awfully long time. Half time 26 - 5 to Oaks. Some more inspirational words were spoken by a number of people in the half time huddle. After speaking among one another we finally grew, and had a winning mentality on our minds.

Coming straight back from the break we were more than ready to have another crack at Sevenoaks team. More hyped and determined we put a lot of pressure on Sevenoaks and after a number of penalty infringements within 5M of their line we were awarded a Penlaty Try which was converted. This brought new belief to win we scored another through Nick Freeman to cut the score to 26 -17 and some of Sevenoaks coaches started to look worried.

However Oaks retaliated by going through to score their 5th try, which made us even more passionate to win. After some good hands by both set of backs we got another try through some more strong running by Steven Fisher and still all to play for.

However, Oaks struck back in the last few minutes of the game with another score. Never giving up we went back to try to score again, but time ran out. A good performance in the second half which we won 17 - 10, but the final score however was 36-22. Overall a good game and a number of lessons learnt I’m sure.

Man of the match was announced James Hampton for his outstanding performance. He was everywhere on the pitch making many tackles and pushing every ruck. Well done James !

After all was said and done, we looked forward to a beautiful drive home, another memory was bought.
