Beccehamian 57 - 5 Brentwood
This was a big game for the A team who were looking to judge themselves against a team from outside Kent. Brentwood came with a strong reputation but, unfortunately, missing a few of their better players. Even so, they started well and for the first 10 minutes and managed to win a few turn overs, hitting the rucks harder and faster than us. Beccs also squanderd some good early ball with some uncharacteristic kicking in the backs when a quick pass was the better option. Gradually the home side took control and when Josh Hewitt opened the scoring with a well worked try the result was never in doubt. Tom Davey went over soon after and Beccs really turned the screw with two tries straight from kick offs, Sam Jeral finishing strongly on both occasions. Beccs turned round 24-0 up.
The second half saw some lovely passages of play with backs and forwards combining well together. The tries soon came with Jack Robertson grabbing a brace and Charlie Phair, Eddie Varona and George Scott completing the scoring. The final fling went to Brentwood who kept going to the end and plucked a well deserved try when nothing was on. All in all a good performance, apart from the first 10 minutes and the last sequence of play - which is better forgotten. Mitch Pugh and Chris Carmichael had very good games sharing the hooking duties, Jack Murtagh was a rock as usual and Connor Brophy had an excellent game in the lineout, pinching quite a few off the opposition throw. In fact everyone played well as the A team finished the first half of the season unbeaten.
