Beccehamian 'B' 0 - 29 Warlingham 'A/B'
Another hard game for the boys against a Warlingham squad peparing for a league game next week and so containing most of their A squad. This showed from the kick off when the visitors won quick ball and moved it fast and wide before scoring under the posts. 0-7 after a couple of minutes is not the best way to start a game but to their credit, the heads did not drop and Beccs slowly worked their way back into the game. The forwards were excellent throughout, matching and often outplaying their opponenets. The biggest difference between the sides was the pace of the Warlingham backs and some weak tackling when they moved the ball wide. Most of their scores came like the first, wide ball at pace - we gave them too much room to run at us. Having said that, Beccs restricted them to one more try before half time to go in 0-14 down.
In close play, however, it was a different story. Tackles were being made and rucks and mauls driven forward. for a long period in the first half we were camped on their line but unable to break over. Led by Rob Neave at 8, there were some strong runs from Jacob Hart and Luke Mullett and some hard tackling by Christopher Carmichael. Chris Chaperlin, in his first start, was the pick of the forwards, covering alot of ground and tackling hard all game. Behind the pack Joe Davies and George Scott played well, always looking to make things happen but handicapped by the lack of pace outside them - Mark Boyle being he only Beccs player with the same gas as some of the Warlingham boys. Even he could not stop three long range second half tries that left Warlingham deserved winners at 29-0
All in all a good display against strong opposition. The squad improve from game to game and should be proud of this performance.
