KENT CUP FINAL - BECCEHAMIANS V CANTERBURY - SUNDAY 16 MARCH, 10.30, AYLESFORD RFC
After the Brighton game I said it doesn't get much better - well it does. After a long day and some fantastic rugby, the boys overcame a spirited Westcombe Park side to book their place in the Kent Cup final.
First game on against Aylesford, the team eschewed their usual slow start to romp into a winning lead with some fantastic, fast flowing rugby that had the game sewn up at half time. Whitstable were similarly dispatched shortly afterwards and then came a long wait of over 3 hours before the quarter finals against Darts. This is always a tough fixture for us and this proved no different. Knock out rugby has its own unique flavour and one mistake can put you out of the game. The boys took the game to Darts and had most of the possession but found them difficult to break down. They kept their shape though and, with a try in each half, ran out worthy winners. The semi against Combe was even more tense. Having seen them put a talented Colfeians side to the sword, we knew we were in for a hard game and they didn't disappoint. It took a stunning try from Harry Trype late in the second half to see us home.
A fantastic effort from everyone in the squad. They played some exciting running rugby but were also able to slog it out when the going got tough. No stars, no prima donnas, just 22 lads pulling together for a common cause. We are proud of all of them, especially on a day when our B squad put up such a great display against Westcombe Park. So there we are, Kent finalists again - this time the big one! Let's have a good turn out for the day - more details later.
In the meantime life goes on. We have a floodlit game against Beckenham on Friday - the team will be announced shortly.
Now for a celebratory curry and a few beers!! Surely it can't get better than this - Can it?
