Sunday 15th October
BECCEHAMIANS 24 V BECKENHAM 12
3rd game of the season and all change as Beccs won this enthralling game in near perfect conditions under foot and weather wise.
The boys arrived early all eager & full of enthusiasm, Sam Vernazza was nominated to take on the role of captain. The game started with a number of scrums, and mauls which produced scrappy ball for the backs resulting in a number of knock-ons. There was some great yards made by the back-row with Bobby picking up and driving off the back of the scrum with Anthony and Alex in close support.
The win was as good as sealed up in the 1st half with 3 tries being run in in fairly short succession.
The 1st try came in the 18th minute, scored by Bobby, from a ruck on the Beckenham 10m line. The ruck was formed after a great drive by Anthony. The ball was picked up by Michael O’Flynn on the blind side who passed it to Bobby who broke through a tackle to score under the posts. The conversions was converted by the Captain, Sam who had a good kicking game.
The second try came immediately from the Kick-off by Michael Glover. Dan Webb on the wing, collected the ball from the kickoff, he passed it to Anthony who kicked it down to the Beckenham 25M line. The resultant collection and kick was then charged down by Michael Glover, who out ran the Beckenham defence to score. The conversions was again successful by Sam.
Just before half time, a drive by Chris Brown and Danny Meehan led to a penalty some 15 metres out, which Sam scored.
The half time was called.
The second half started as the 1st half finished. Some 15 mins into the half, Anthony scored a try from 10 metres out. This was the result of some great team work , as they recycled the ball twice from mauls. From Bobby the ball was taken by Anthony who drove through 2 opponents to score.
Beckenham came back with 2 quick tries and conversions in the last 20 mins. A case of a too little too late allowing Becc’s to restore the balance following last years defeat.
