Beccehamians 19 V Old Alleynians 42

On a cold and sunny Sunday morning, Beccs lost to Old Alleynians, who produced 6 tries, to Beccs 3. It was worth watching. At times frustrating but also enjoyable, with Beccs putting in a great performance despite, at times playing with 13 men in the 1st half from a full team of 14.

Beccs started off really well, with a great interchange between Matt and Bobby almost producing a try, unfortunately the final pass being a forward one.

Old A’s 1st try came in the 12th minute and was immediately followed on from the kickoff by their 2nd try. Both tries were converted.

The scrum held up well and were not pushed around .Dan at fullback had a great run from his 25 metre up to Old A’s, side stepping a number of players, but was not supported when he needed it .

Billy became injured and was taken off. Old A’s then scored their 3rd try under the posts, which was converted. The ref, who had a good game, blew half time

The 2nd half started as the 1st half finished, with Old A’s scoring 2 tries within the 1st 10 minutes, with Beccs having no reply.

Becs, finally scored with a well worked interchange play. Billy and Dan interchanged the ball, 10 meters in Old A’s half .Billy then passed to Max who drove to within 10 meters of the line and popped it up to Anthony who scored despite the attempts of 2 Old A’ys defenders. Unfortunately, it remained unconverted.

This revived Beccs who scored from open play with a great interplay.1st Billy passed to Harvey, who produced a great run and released Bobby who sidestepped a defender to score under the posts. Harvey converted

Beccs did not have it their own way with Old A’s scoring a try to bring the scores to 42-12 to them. But Beccs had one more try in them. A scrum some 15 metres from Old A’s line. The ball, from a Beccs put in ,was hooked back by Archie and it was collected by Harvey who popped it up to Bobby who produced one of his great runs, breaking through the defences to score under the posts. Harvey converted this.

The 14 players of Beccs and at times 13 can be proud of themselves.
