Beccehamians 20 V Old Elthamians 5

On a cold Sunday morning, Beccs beat Old E’s, by 4 tries to 1. Beccs put in a great performance, with solid rucking and passing on a slippery pitch. Beccs welcomed new boy Matt Verona.

The match for the first 15 minutes was scrappy, mostly due to state of the pitch.

Beccs 1st try came in the 15th minute, when Beccs had a scrum 5 meters from Old E’s line. Andrew Murray, who had a good game, passed the ball to Anthony who broke through a number of tackles to score. Unfortunately, it remained unconverted as with all other conversions, on both sides.

For the next 10 minutes, Old E’s forced Beccs to defend but they could not force a try.

In the 25th minute of the match, the try of the day. From 25 metres out, from the scrum Andrew passed to Jamie Keate who raced onto it at pace and at a great angle, leaving 3 defenders dead by his speed and side step. He was caught 5 meters out, but managed to pass to Sam Venozzi who scored.

Old E’s to their credit replied instantly with a score just before half time. 10-5 to Beccs at half time.

The 2nd half started as the first half, a bit scrappy. However, after 5 minutes there was some great play by Beccs, with great interplay in the backs to gain good ground.

The 3rd try came in the 20th minute of the half from Anthony from a penalty 15 meters from Old E’s line. Anthony, from a pass from Andrew, drove over the line breaking a number of tackles to score.

Beccs produced some excellent runs, with great interplay between Anthony and Bobby running on one occasion from Beccs 25 metre line to almost score.

The last try was scored by Bobby, from one of his trademark runs from 25 metres out, breaking a number of tackles and was able to twist himself over the line to score.
